About Sunlight Gardens
Meet Your Neighborhood Farm
Sunlight Gardens is a two-acre organic urban farm in Battle Creek, MI. Our mission is to increase access to local food and inspire the next generation of farmers. With a passionate dedication to soil health and innovative farming practices, Sunlight Gardens showcases the essential connection between healthy soil, nourishing food, and vibrant communities.
From our indoor and outdoor growing spaces & our on-site vegetative compost creation to our community touchpoints, including our fresh corner store Farmacy and on-site events, we believe in a fresh future for our neighborhood.

-
Devon Wilson
FOUNDER | CEO
Devon is the heart behind Sunlight Gardens — an urban farmer, food justice advocate, and proud Battle Creek native. With over a decade of experience and training from MSU’s Organic Farmer Program, he’s passionate about growing fresh food and building stronger communities. As a W.K. Kellogg Foundation fellow, Devon leads the farm with a mission: tackle food insecurity, inspire change, and make farming fun, fresh, and accessible for everyone.
-
Enrique Hernandez
FARMER
Enrique has spent the last 8 years farming with purpose — to grow nutrient-packed produce and help people reconnect with the earth. He’s all about honoring our relationship with the soil and believes that everyone deserves access to clean, sustainable food, medicine, and goods straight from Mother Earth.
-
Jerry Olds
FARM MANAGER
Jerry’s farming journey started in 2020 as an intern with Devon, just looking to eat a little healthier. Now, with over four years under his belt, he’s all in on helping others get their hands in the dirt, learn the ropes, and find joy in growing their own food.

Karl Henderson
SOCIAL MEDIA
Karl first showed up at Sunlight Gardens as a volunteer in 2022, and by 2023 he was officially part of the crew! He’s the man behind the camera, creating videos for the farm’s YouTube channel and capturing the everyday magic of growing food and growing community. His favorite part? Showing people what’s possible when we work together.
